About Oil Watch

A veteran-owned, community-driven tool for finding seed oil free restaurants.

Why We Built a Seed Oil Free Restaurant Finder

Finding a restaurant that cooks without industrial seed oils shouldn't require scrolling through Reddit threads and Instagram comments. Whether you avoid canola oil, soybean oil, or sunflower oil for health reasons or personal preference, the information is scattered and unreliable. There was no single, trustworthy place to look it up.

Oil Watch was built to fix that. We created a searchable map of seed oil free restaurants powered by the people who actually eat at them. The community submits, verifies, and updates cooking oil information so you can check before you go.

Oil Watch is veteran-owned and based in New York City.

How Our Community-Verified Restaurant Database Works

Anyone can browse Oil Watch and search for seed oil free restaurants near me or in specific cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Austin, and more. No account required.

If you know a restaurant that cooks with butter, ghee, tallow, avocado oil, olive oil, or coconut oil instead of seed oils, you can submit it so others can find it too.

Every listing includes details about which cooking oils a restaurant uses, how that information was verified, and when it was last confirmed. Our scoring system rates restaurants from 0 to 100 across five categories: fryer oil, cooking fats, salad dressings, bread and wraps, and sauces. It surfaces the most reliable data and flags anything that needs a fresh check.

Contributors earn reputation points for adding restaurants, verifying listings, and reporting changes. It's a small incentive to keep the data growing.

The goal is simple: make it easy to eat out with confidence. Search by city, neighborhood, or cuisine and find restaurants that match the way you want to eat.

What We Believe

The food industry has quietly replaced traditional cooking fats with cheap, highly processed seed oils over the past several decades. A growing body of research on seed oils suggests these oils may contribute to inflammation and other health concerns. We think people deserve to make informed choices about what goes into their food.

We're not here to tell anyone what to eat. We're here to make the information available so you can decide for yourself. If you want to learn more about seed oils and the evidence behind them, our guides lay out the research without hype.

Transparency in food should be the norm, not the exception. Oil Watch is a community project, built by people who care about food quality and want to make healthier dining easier for everyone.
